FICTIVE POETRY
Offered at Richard Hugo House
“Lying, the telling of beautiful untrue things, is the proper aim of art.” –Oscar Wilde
Plato condemned poets as liars, but the truth is that making things up—invention—can lead all of us into deeper things.
This workshop’s aim is to push your imagination outside the familiar.
Together we'll write off contemporary poets whose work defines fictive poetry:
the fantastical narrative (Brigit Peegan Kelly); the monologue (Frank Bidard);
persona poems (Ai); and a multiple-choice myth (A.E. Stallings). And we’ll produce the start of a few poems, too.
DATE: Saturday, March 4th, 1 – 5pm
PLACE: Richard Hugo House on Capitol Hill
